However, keep in mind that the project has not been updated for some time and, as a result, it does not support more recent macOS releases, such as High Sierra. On the other hand, Proteus is great if you are working on Tiger or Snow Leopard.

To help you get started, Proteus comes with a Setup Wizard that takes you through the essential configuration steps and helps you connect to 5 different types of accounts. Of course, you can connect more services by navigating to the app’s Preferences.

Once everything is setup, Proteus works as any other chat client: you can send and receive messages, you can customize your online status, and you can effortlessly personalize the app’s appearance.
The only difference is that you can visualize and communicate with all your contacts, regardless of the messaging service they are using. For your convenience, Proteus allows you to apply different sorting rules for your contacts list, and allows you to export all of them to the same text file.
